I think one of the main problems for "would be internet marketers" is that they do not understand what the internet is really for, and how it really works.
People join an opportunity or affiliate program because "they have a cool website", not realizing what it will really take to PROMOTE that opportunity, or their affiliate website.
This leads to failure, because just putting up a website will not produce anything! Don't fall into that trap.
In the old days, I remember having to go out and find people on the street, get them interested, show them the opportunity, get back to them, qualify them, train them, Seydel harmonica etc. etc. etc.
Nowadays, the only thing that I need to do is develop relationships with the people that are interested in learning our system. The system itself does most of the teaching, training, qualifying, and support. My job is to just act as a coach and help them along.
It takes 90% of the work away, so I can focus on the important part of the business...
People
I have found that systems that rely 100% on the internet are not as successful as taking the time and building relationships, actually spending some time either on the phone, or in person with people. All business is dependent on people and relationships, not on websites.
That is why I love the "new economy"
Systems exist that do most of the prospecting, qualifying, educating, following up, and training for you, freeing you up to do the important part;
Developing relationships and working with qualified people!!
These internet marketing systems can take a "raw lead" and send them an email to go to a website. On the website they can register (or not) if they are interested.
Once inside the system there is a movie available to the prospect about our company, how it works, comp plan, and a lot of other information is available if the prospect is so inclined.
If the prospect is interested, they will OPT IN AGAIN to receive additional information.
This creates a COMPANY SPECIFIC, EXCLUSIVE lead.
It is exclusive to me because we produced it ourselves.
IT IS NOT A PURCHASED LEAD! (This also creates the lead very inexpensively)
Then we can work with the prospect in a professional manner, because they approached us, went through at least 2 opt ins, and requested information.
This makes for a qualified interested lead that we can now take the time, phone them and bring them into our business.
As a matter of fact, we actually work with individuals to develop 2 separate lead generation machines!!
Using the internet in the correct way will help you grow your business, if you understand it and use it properly.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you can just have a website and you'll make a ton of money.... It just doesn't work that way.
Using the internet for doing the routine work will free you up, and produce qualified leads, so you can have time to work on what is important...Building relationships with people.
